Research description:

Presently doing research in the area of the power electronics interface between distributed generation resources and the utility. Also conduct joint research with ORNL on power electronics and electric machinery for hybrid electric vehicles and auxiliary portable generator sets.

Past research includes harmonics and power quality studies; multilevel inverters; electric distribution load flow, protection, and design studies.

Laboratory facilities:

Has access to Power Electronics and Electric Machine Research Center laboratory facilities at the National Transportation Research Center, which is jointly operated by The University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Equipment includes 600 V, 600 A bi-directional power supply, 100 hp motoring dynamometer, 100 kW inverters, and other power electronics and electric machinery.
