Research description:

Research activities include large signal transient stability analysis of power systems. Particular emphasis has been on small scale systems with dispersed generation and load. Highly detailed dynamic models are being developed for transient stability studies, especially for turbine governor systems. The research focus is primarily on weak transmission systems and isolated generation plants which together exhibit unstable performance.

Special research capabilities exist because of extensive familiarity with commercial transient stability software, such as PTI's PSS/E.

Lab Facilities:

Special facilities include access to commercial power systems simulation software, in conjunction with Electric Power Systems, Inc. of Anchorage, Alaska.
