Research description:

Voltage stability in large power networks: sensitivity analysis, monitoring, emergency control. Wide area protection: voltage and transient stability. Distribution efficiency and voltage stability: assessment of load models on system performance. Real-time monitoring systems for utility applications: phasor measurement system design, testing, development of monitoring networks, including phasor measurement system for harmonic monitoring in transmission networks. Photovoltaic systems: design, performance analysis, cost benefit analysis, AC PV systems, inverters, islanding of PV inverters, PV system analysis software development and benchmarking. Sustainability in electric energy systems.

Laboratory facilities:

Computer facilities for software simulation. High voltage laboratory, formerly owned by Georgia Power Company, now part of Ga Tech National Electric Energy Testing and Research Center (NEETRAC). Capability for assessment of HV instrumentation and equipment at the highest voltage levels, extensive cable testing facilities, instrumentation laboratory, electric vehicle research center.
