Research description:

Research has been in two general areas: artificial neural network applications and in the modeling and assessment of the reliability implications and impacts of electric utility restructuring. Artificial neural networks have been applied to long and medium-term load forecasting and research is on-going in the application of ANNs to transmission modeling for use in system reliability assessments and in transfer capability assessments. Electric utility restructuring will result in many changes in system operation including changes in generating unit commitment and dispatch practices and in the use and loading of the transmission network. Accordingly, research is in progress for the development of new system reliability models and methods capable of assessing bulk power system reliability in the restructured utility environment.
